Hi From Amy In Vegas! – I’m newsletter Assistant Editor Amy Rayner-Cooley. Busy times here in Las Vegas. Last weekend was another big sports weekend with the big UFC 229 fight, Khabib vs. McGregor. Wow, what an ending! Crazy even by Vegas standards. VGK tickets continue to be super-hot. If you are going to be in town and want to catch a game, or if you are planning a trip to see your team play our team, we suggest you act sooner than later.
We have awesome seats at Vegas Golden Knights Tickets. I didn’t say cheap. (The demand is high). I said AWESOME!

This Issue’s Comped Insider Tip – Every issue, we’re going to comp you one tip from the couple-of-hundred neatly organized for our paid members. Every issue, Publisher (and 25 year Las Vegas Expert) Ted Newkirk gives “must know” tips which will properly prep you for your next visit. Whether that is 3 weeks away, 3 months away, or “not yet sure when” away.
As we get into fall, I’d like to take a minute to remind you we’re looking at our four “coldest” months of the year. (Make sure to read this even if you are not visiting during this stretch as I have some Pro Tips that are good for other times of the year as well). Unlike some other areas where fall cools off and then the real cold hits in January and February, our dip generally follows a pattern of bottoming out right around Christmas and New Years. Temperatures have hovered right around freezing the past two New Years Eve’s. The past two years, we’ve had a number of December days that dipped into the 20’s F.
The average highs are as follows: November 66F, December 57F, January 58F, and February 62F. BUT (sound of screeching tires), keep in mind that our desert weather is drastic and dramatic. In Florida, a high of 65 might mean a low of 50 or 55. However, with the short winter days and clear desert nights (no cloud cover to hold in the heat), the temperature drops dramatically once the sun below the western mountains.
What does this mean to you during your visit the next four months? You can probably leave the swimsuit at home. Even if you want to brave the chilly weather (and our desert breezes), only a few hotels have pools which are open all year around. We’re not listing them because they are subject to change, but if you are coming and still want to possibly take a dip, CALL the hotels you usually stay at and ask about pool conditions before booking. If you are an MGM “Pay To Park” Resorts or Caesars Entertainment customer, you may want to ask which (if any) stay open and choose to book the properties that keep a pool open.
Don’t be fooled when you leave your hotel at 3:30 PM without a jacket because it seems so nice out and the sun is warming up your skin. If you are going to be out for a few hours, you’re going to start hating yourself as you brave the increasing chill throughout the evening. This is also important for of you who are from cold climates and wear shorts any time it is above 55: Ya… that won’t feel so good in front of Bellagio Fountains with the wind blowing the cold spray your way at 10 PM.

While Uber and Lyft have grown very popular, many of you are still taking cabs. Either because you are not doing ride-sharing yet, or one is there and ready to go instead of waiting for Uber. Unfortunately, Las Vegas taxi drivers continue to long-haul people (take people the long way).
What you need to know is that the way to report this has changed. You used to simply call a phone number and complain. Now, you need to visit the Nevada Taxicab Authority website, download a PDF form, and submit it via snail mail or email.
For our paid subscribers, (Publisher) Ted Newkirk goes into the details of how to make sure you always have the info you’ll need to make a complaint, and how (and when) to deal with the driver when you get long-hauled. We also remind our paid members how to virtually guarantee getting anything you left in a cab back within minutes. (Not hours, or never).
Don’t think it won’t happen to you. The excitement of Las Vegas makes people forget things in cabs all day long.

News Source Note – Both the Las Vegas Sun and Review-Journal have started charging for access. The Sun gives you 10 stories a month for free. The Review-Journal only gives you 5. As these are two key sources of Las Vegas information, we frequently link to them. We have no association with either of them and have no control over this.
Both papers ask for around $9 per month for unlimited access. Which is three times what we ask for the mountains of member benefits we offer. Here’s what we’re doing starting next issue: When we find an article in either of those papers which we feel may be of interest to you, we’ll do our best to look for an alternate source and post that link instead. Often, our local TV and radio stations or other newspapers carry a similar story.
However, we already spend hours and hours each week combing through news stories and sources so that you have quick and easy “one stop shopping” for the Las Vegas information which will help make your next visit amazing. This is more work for us. (Outside a couple of you total Vegas nuts, I highly doubt the rest of you are so interested in Las Vegas that you research the best and latest info daily so you’ll be 100% prepped for your next visit).
So, we are discussing making the news links a members only benefit. (Publisher) Ted Newkirk feels that if someone doesn’t value having massive amounts of quality, insider Las Vegas information at their fingertips enough to support us with less than $3 per month (paid annually, full 60 day money-back guarantee), then they are not the kind of people who will care if the news links are available in the free version or not. As, they probably don’t want to improve their visit by taking a few minutes a week to stay informed on Las Vegas.
This Issue’s Comped Insider Tip – Every issue, we’re going to comp you one tip from the couple-of-hundred neatly organized for our members in .
Our tip this week is to avoid the new “Triple Zero” roulette games starting to appear up and down the Las Vegas Strip. In our members edition, (Publisher) Ted goes into the details of how bad this game is for you, what the odds are, how much you are likely to lose, and the plentiful alternatives still available. Instant access to that and the entire members edition are available here (with full 60 day money-back guarantee).
The bottom line is to avoid this game at all costs. Even if others without this knowledge are gathered around it. The numerous tips like this in our members area will alone save you MORE than the cost of the membership.

We will be making our last trip to Las Vegas very shortly and just wondering if you could help me with this question. Previously we have taken the Showtime Shuttle Roundtrip Hotel/Airport. Sometime it is a very long wait so am wondering if there is a better alternative in shuttles or would a taxi be bette…and approx. what would the cost be.
Also is there a special route to ask the taxi driver to take to the Golden Nugget. Have read where they will take you the long route therefore costing lots more. Thank you for your help.

Hi From Amy In Vegas! – I’m newsletter Assistant Editor Amy Rayner-Cooley. I’m taking over for Ted in the free version of our newsletter. As he noted, he’s moving 100% over to be there for our paid members with his columns, tips, answers to question, and similar.
Last week, he was interviewed by a local reporter regarding whether the high price of eating in Las Vegas (particularly on The Strip) is something visitors are voicing concern about. Members already have access to our exclusive dining deals spreadsheet (filled with thousands of dollars in potential savings, up and down The Strip and Fremont, no coupons needed).
Ted went on to tell members about some of his favorite near-Strip spots and how it can be cheaper to Uber it there and back than dine on The Strip. He also had tips on how to find great near-Strip dining spots that would be up your alley. Also, members have our Your Man In Vegas feature. So, if they are looking for a specific kind of near-Strip restaurant (BBQ, for example), we can personally give them our best advice.
Ted has agreed to extend the 30% savings on membership using the promo code INSIDER18 (all one word) one more week. Then, back to the normal price. So your next visit is months away? Even better. Gives you plenty of time to enjoy both the archives plus all of the new tips in each member’s issue.

Which is AWESOME to view from up there, both in term of the sun dropping over the western mountains and The Strip lighting up.
