Mac King’s Comedy Magic Show Leaves Everybody Happy

by Bethany Dixon

In the second row of Harrah’s Showroom Theatre, ten-year-old Micah Oka says, “My favorite trick is when you tell your friends’ future with their shoe. You hold the shoe and you say: You are going to go for a short trip verrrryyy soooooon…” He pauses for effect and stares very seriously over his Harry Potter-like glasses. “Then you throw their shoe so that they have to go get it! Get it!?” Micah grins, delighted. He’s been reading magical comedian Mac King’s books for half of his life, and getting the chance to see his mentor live is making it difficult for him to sit still. His enthusiasm is contagious, and the buzz in the purple and gold theatre is electric from those who know what they are about to see.

The Mac King show at Harrah’s Showroom Theatre is a stand-up comedy magic show. Mac King includes volunteers from the audience, a few props, and a surprising camping guest in his one-man act. The show has been running at one and three in the afternoon Tuesday through Saturday since January 11, 2000.

by Mark Marino

Las Vegas has never been shy about showing off the human body, but Tropicana has given their guests a lifetime opportunity to view many bodies more intimately than ever before. BODIES is an eye widening exhibit that offers a compelling way to understand the amazing and complex layers of the human machine.

Through a process of special preservation, once dead body tissue is rubberized with a silicone polymer and resurrected to a live human form. The world of inventive science and modern medicine present itself in a museum full of real bodies and parts. The entire body is dissected and reassembled for an absolutely lucid and intriguing look at everything piece by piece. Often times these specimens are completely out in the open, allowing guests to get as close as they like and stare without hesitation into the intricate structures that belong to all of us.

Gambling Talk: Video Keno – Part Ten – with Victor H. Royer. Video Keno Strategy Continued- While Video Keno is not necessarily among the best games that may be available — odds wise when seen from that perspective — it isn’t one of the worst games either. There are many video poker versions, for example, whose payback percentages are a lot worse than those in Video Keno, while the odds of winning something are thousands of times longer than their comparable cash-equivalent wins in Video Keno. Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello From Las Vegas! NASCAR weekend came and went with a big bang… as in a number of top drivers plowing into the wall with a flat tire or simply “getting loose” with the high winds. It wasn’t cold, but our desert can have unpredictable high winds in the early Spring.

One of the highlights everyone could enjoy was the parade of these huge NASCAR “haulers” right down The Strip! These oversized vehicles (even by truck standards) haul two race cars plus all the crew gear from race-to-race.

You can click on the above photo to see our complete photo gallery set of this unique event!

My favorite driver is Las Vegas native Kurt Busch, who pilots the Miller Lite #2 Dodge car. I moved here before Kurt was old enough to drink and have enjoyed watching both he (and his brother Kyle’s) rise through the ranks of racing.

I couldn’t pass up the chance to be front-and-center at the Kurt Busch autograph signing at the Sierra Gold “ultra-lounge” last week. Close to a thousand people (maybe more) lined up around the building to wait their turn. Inside, the Miller Lite and Jack Daniel’s girls were handing out free beer and swag in probably one of the most festive atmospheres ever for a NASCAR driver signing. We have the pics:

Las Vegas Native NASCAR Driver Kurt Busch

Click on above photos to view this entire photo set!PT’s Pubs (a chain of bars around the Las Vegas area) owns Sierra Gold and is a sponsor of the Kurt Busch car, so they went all out to do it up right. You can view the PT’s/Kurt Busch commercial (YouTube) that has been in heavy rotation on local TV here in Las Vegas.OK… OK… hold the emails and complaints. We realize everyone isn’t a NASCAR fan. This is a once-a-year deal. As always, we have our usual huge newsletter with everything you need to know about all the latest happenings in Las Vegas, plus our regular Members Mania and News sections.

Featured Review – Hooray for HATS!

Reviewed March 2008
by Terri Feld

A life-affirming musical review inspired by the The Red Hat Society. Founded 10 years ago in California, the RHS is a diverse network of women 50 years and older who meet for outings dressed in colorful purple clothing crowned with red hats. Today nearly 40,000 chapters exist throughout the U.S. as well as 30 other countries. HATS! the show promotes the organizations’ mission of maintaining a positive outlook on aging, by emphasizing sisterhood and the empowerment of maturity.

At least a dozen genuine Red-Hatters in full regalia comprised part of a recent Sunday matinee audience dominated by fellow female fifty-somethings. The intimate venue consists of floor seats and table banquettes, giving audiences optimal accessibility to the performances throughout this one-act production. Ushers point out the bar located at the rear, however, purchasing drinks is not required. In fact, despite signage to the contrary, they gallantly wave me and my Starbucks to our seat. Reader Rick Bobst submitted a number of amazing Las Vegas photos. Enjoy these, and see the rest in our AccessVegas.com Reader Submitted Photos Gallery!

Ted,
My nephew is going to Vegas in a couple of weeks for his 21’st birthday. He wants to go to clubs like Pure and Studio 54. What is his best chance of getting in? They are staying at The Palms. Is he better off trying to get into Rain or Ghostbar?

Thanks,
Bob

á

We are going to get into a lot more club stuff this year. In the meantime, the best bet is to hit our friends at Nightclubs.com. Have him hit that link and punch in the dates to see what is happening and what is available.

Staying at a hotel is no sure way to get into their club. And… unfortunately if you are a group of guys, it makes it even more tough (as the clubs want plenty of women in the club also). Even if you are a mix of males and females, that won’t always speed things up.

The bottom line is that the non-VIP line can be 1-2 hours (or more). Purchasing VIP tickets usually cuts the wait substantially.. (A club can only hold so many people… virtually no one except celebs get in right away). Also, tell him NOT to club hop. Las Vegas is huge, traffic is a problem. He should pick the club he and his friends want and do the night there.

Hi Ted,My name is Ed Robinson from Manchester, Michigan and I read one of your articles about the traffic on the Vegas strip and the monorails design to help it. My question/comment is why I never hear or read anything about running the monorail right down the center of strip itself instead of behind the hotels. Being elevated, it would not take up much space and would be a hundred times more efficient and convenient. For starters, just being out front, people would see it and I am sure use it instead of driving. The way it is now, nobody in my family or any of our friends ever uses it because in the time it takes to walk through the casino and find the stop, we can just as easily and for free, walk to where we are going or use the bus system (which I think its the Best way to get up and down the strip for a small fee).

I am willing to bet that the monorail could be built to utilize the existing overhead crosswalks and maybe build some more to get people from crossing the side streets and further congesting traffic. Imagine walking out of the Mandalay Bay and having a monorail right there that could get you all the way downtown or just up to the Monte Carlo or any stop along the way and never have to worry about cars on the strip. It will never be that way with the monorail behind the buildings as it is now, never.

Right now it is just an inconvenience to use the system. Even when my wife and I stayed at the MGM last year, our one ride on the monorail was an expensive pain in the butt and probably won’t happen again.

I love going to Las Vegas but I always thought the monorail was a mistake and one that was not planned out enough to be worthwhile.

Thanks,
Ed Robinson

á

I couldn’t have said it better myself. The monorail is on reserve funds and may face either a demise or an expensive local government takeover.

Rebuilding it down the center of The Strip (no matter how much sense it makes) may be cost prohibitive. Especially since people are gun-shy about the failure of the current one.

I keep touting an elevated cable tram, just like they have in Palm Springs and Albuquerque. Cars holding 50+ people, running above the traffic lanes, making stops at selected casinos with one car running after the other after the other. The cars would stop on (what amounts to) the third floor of various casinos and the ride above traffic would be scenic with great photo-opts without the need for an unsightly structure disrupting the center of The Strip.

Our local officials and the gaming companies better figure something out. If we can’t get our loyal visitors around when you are here, you might not want to come back so often.

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello From Las Vegas! I’m still getting used to the end of Daylight Savings Time. The sunsets are amazing, but the sun is setting about 5 PM this time of year. This week, we are also dealing with the sudden end of “summer” weather. Long time Las Vegas residents will tell you that we always seem to have one definitive time in the fall and another in the spring where the temperature makes a sudden shift. This week started with highs near 80 and will end with highs near 60. Every spring, we seem to jump from the mid-60’s to the low 80’s over the course of just a few days in April (all temperatures Fahrenheit).

This is a special photo issue! Usually we post many of the great photos that readers send in, so this week it is our turn. We had Mark Jacobs out shooting photos of the aftermath of The Frontier implosion, over to The Bellagio for their Botanical Gardens Thanksgiving Display, and then to the new Planet Hollywood for the pre-opening of the Hawaiian Tropic Zone bikini bash! (Yes, he really gets paid to do this and no, we don’t have another similar position open right now). Links to all those great photo sets are later in the newsletter.

The L.A. Times did a solid, accurate update on how things are going with the Nevada smoking ban. The bottom line is that enforcement has been all but given up on. Bars have found creative ways around it, and a judge has ruled that violating the ban is only a civil matter. IE, the police aren’t going to do anything about it. This leaves a health department staff without the manpower to enforce the law responsible for trying to catch and deal with violators. The fine if you are caught? $100. The number of people fined to date? 0.

Because this story has generated so much reader feedback over the past year, we’ll continue to follow it. Those interested in the details can read the article Las Vegas bars working around Nevada smoking ban.

As this issue goes out, it is the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States and we hope all celebrating have an enjoyable time with family or friends. This would be a great time to tell everyone you know about this newsletter. If you are checking your email at someone else’s place or have a group of people over at yours, gather a few around and share some of the Bellagio Thanksgiving Season photos we feature later in the newsletter. If they are Las Vegas visitors (or just thinking about visiting), click on over to our newsletter website and get them signed up.

Enjoy This Issue!

Gambling Talk: Playing Internet Tournaments — Part 4 — Real vs. Internet – with Victor H. Royer. Of course, if you are players such as myself, who has first learned to play poker in the real world, because at the time that we were so learning there not only weren’t any computers, but the world of the Internet had not even been conceived, sometimes it may be difficult for us to transition from the real world to that of the Internet. Fortunately, I am not that old as to be technologically challenged in this way, and I have actually found the world of technological innovations, and lately the world of Internet poker tournaments, to be exceptionally beneficial, interesting, entertaining, and actually quite profitable as well. Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello From Las Vegas! Running just a little bit late this week. We published a couple of days late last week to include the ramifications of the election results, and that tossed us a little behind for this week. We’ll be back to our usual mid-week release soon.

With so much “serious” coverage of everything happening in Las Vegas, we sent Larry G. Jones – The Man of 1002 Voices to the grand opening of the residential preview center for Project CityCenter (across from the Aladdin, south of Bellagio) for a more humorous look at this huge new project. Lots of stuff so I’m going to get out of the way quickly this week. We’ll have an expanded reader response section in the next couple of newsletters to address some common questions we frequently get.

Gambling Talk: Poker People – with Victor H. Royer. We called her Diamond Lil. Not because her name was Lil, or because she wore any diamonds, but because she always caught it on the river. She reminded us of those famed Belle’s of the Mississippi gambling ships of yesteryear.

Next to me sat Dan Petrie Jr., writer and movie director (“Beverly Hills Cop”), a few seats to my right Rodney Dangerfield’s opening act (I never did get his real name), a few seats over Diamond Lil, then Texas Pete – an enormous man with a huge hat – then Fred the Fisherman, next to him one of the local professionals whose face I know very well, but whose name I no longer recall. Hi

myself, my wife and daughter have planned a trip to Las Vegas from England for the Christmas period (23rd to the 28th December), I would like to surprise them with a stretch limo when we arrive at the airport for the short trip to the Luxor, can you recommend a good Limo company?.

regards

Stewart, Gillian & Charlotte

Ted Responds:

We work with a company that only contracts with the top, more reputable and reasonably prices limo services and you can check out all the details on our limo rental area.

I agree that there is no better splurge, and it is more affordable than people think. No cab lines (or cab rip-offs with them talking you the long way), you can enjoy an optional 30 minute tour of The Strip (highly suggested), and there is nothing like pulling up in front of hour hotel in a limo.

In two years, we’ve had many words of praise and no complaints. Hope this helps and enjoy the trip!

What exactly is covered in the smoking ban? Can we still smoke in hotel rooms? The article mentioned malls. In Chicago we can smoke OUTSIDE but not inside. If, for example, I go to Fashion Show Mall, am I still allowed to smoke on the outside perimeters? I’m assuming we can still smoke in all casinos, correct? Quite frankly I’m fed up with all the no smoking rules. These idiot politicians should go after the bad guys instead. Was always happy to land in Vegas several times a year because we still had our freedom.By the way, I love your newsletter. As a person who loves Vegas and tries to keep up with the news, it’s a tremendous help. Have a great holiday.

Susan

Ted Responds:

The extent of the ban and how it will be enforced is yet to be seen.

A court had already decided that if measure 5 passed, it wouldn’t apply to hotel rooms. However, that won’t stop the proponents from trying to put that into court again.

Outdoor smoking is always permitted.

The politicians didn’t pass this. A vote of the people of Nevada did. Two many newcomers from restrictive states that legislate when and how you can even burp have moved here and want Nevada to be just like their home state. If their state was so great, they wouldn’t have moved here.

Side Note: I can’t count the transplants I have met who complain, complain, complain about living here. Everything from lack of bike paths and parks to not being able to get a “decent” pizza. But funny, you see them months later and they are still living here.

Back to the issue: I’m a non-smoker who and no one has ever put a gun to my head to go into a bar, club, or other establishment that allows smoking.

To those who are all for legislation banning smoking in businesses instead of letting the business and free market decide (I.E., a non-smoker choosing to patronize only businesses that are smoke-free), think about the move underfoot to restrict various unhealthy or fast food. Or booze. The shoe won’t fit so well when it is on the other foot.

By the way, smoking will continue to be allowed on the casino floors and the bars in casinos. If anything, this is going to cause people to do more smoking on the gaming floor area since they can’t smoke in restaurants, hallways, convention areas and the like. Hence, backfiring on those who approved of the ban in general hoping for a smoke-free gaming experience.

Will those of you recent transplants to Nevada who don’t like our “live and let live” attitude toward vices please move back home and quit trying to change Nevada? What is next, a last call for serving booze?

Hello there,Can anyone help us?

We are coming from England in February to the scooter rally at the Gold Coast hotel (Vespa’s, Lambretta’s ect) and have been trying to find out if we can hire a Vespa or Lambretta for our stay? Any ideas?

Thanks

Keren and Roy Russell

Ted Responds:

Great question, and with the demise of the Boardwalk (and the exotic car rental place next door to it), I honestly don’t know. Any reader suggestions to us at allvegastv@aol.com would be appreciated. Beyond that, best I can suggest is a web search on it.

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello from Las Vegas! Highs this next week will be in the 60’s (F) and the cold and snow in much of the US doesn’t look like it is letting up soon. Can’t say I’d trade places with those of you snow and icebound, but this is a great time to get away to Las Vegas and warm up.

Our pick for the best Super Bowl party this Sunday? AladdinÆs Big Game Party features gorgeous Hawaiian Tropic models, a chance to win $100,000, giveaways … oh, the game on huge screens.

Valentine’s Day – is right around the corner. Easy for us guys to forget (hey, Super Bowl is on tap, NASCAR is starting … ) and if you didn’t measure up last year, take her to Vegas this year and all will be forgiven. Plus, it falls on a Saturday so the odds are you have the day off.

Rooms aren’t going to be cheap on short notice, so use our expert advice that we give for New Year’s Eve bookings to nail that Valentines room in Vegas. She’ll be the envy of her friends (and you get to go to Vegas)!

Best Kept Secret – Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is among the best kept secrets in Las Vegas … and it is free! Home to a flock of live Chilean Flamingos, African penguins, swans, ducks, Koi, and turtles populating the grounds, this is a favorite of ours to unwind or take someone for a romantic walk. The carefully tended gardens, tropical plants, and waterfalls are amazing.

You can find the habitat at the Flamingo Las Vegas by heading back in the direction of the buffet. As noted, this is free and open to the public. Not visiting soon (or want a sneak peek before you get here)? Click to view our Flamingo Wildlife Habitat photos!

Roy Horn Update – Roy (Siegfried and Roy) Horn is progressing very well, according to Las Vegas gossip columnist Norm. Click to read the details

Speaking of … word is that Siegfried and Roy will be replaced with a Cirque Du Soleil show. That combined with the Cirque style show Celine Dion – A New Day and a Cirque style show scheduled for Wynn Las Vegas, and the one soon to come online at the MGM Grand will bring this unique show style to seven different venues.

Will supply outstrip demand? Probably not as these unique, high-end productions are sensory delights that make a lifetime impression. If you get a chance to see Cirque du Soleil shows O, Mystere, or Zumanity, grab it. Tickets are constantly in high demand.

NASCAR Weekend – Las Vegas NASCAR Nextel and Busch ticket packages including great seats and first-class hotels, plus our insider transportation tips to get you to the speedway quickly! Check out the growing list of Las Vegas Super Bowl Parties.

Martin Nievera – Word is out that this Philippine-born entertainer is singing up a storm downtown at the Golden Nugget. We had to miss the press preview(I had the flu) but look forward to seeing him soon. In the meantime, don’t pass up this talented entertainer bringing back a taste of “old Vegas” with a new touch. Lawry’s The Prime Rib

By Barbara Hendricks and Robert Waller

Lawry’s The Prime Rib is at first glance an elegant, simple and well known eating establishment. Located on Las Vegas’ famed “restaurant row” just a mile from The Strip, Lawry’s dramatic Art Deco design, rich woods and vibrant colors welcome you into a setting that has an extraordinary feeling of warmth and elegance.

The dÚcor is tasteful but doesn’t scream snobbery. The staff is very well trained and many have been with the company for decades. Their helpful nature and hospitable attitude defines the culture that is Lawry’s.

Let’s talk about the food. Wow! Bring your appetite. Good size proportions, and the entire menu from salads to entrees, and (of course) deserts are excellent.

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello from Las Vegas! The weather has been incredible, with highs in the low 80’s. Enjoyed watching some of the snow and rain on TV, but glad it isn’t here. Spring is in Las Vegas!

Travel 101 – Every few weeks, someone writes and say “I try to get your deals and it always gives me a higher price than you put in the newsletter.”

In the travel industry, prices are listed “From $$$.” For example, Travelocity.com has a “Las Vegas From $25” commercial running on TV (where they say to check elsewhere, you’ll be back). If you are willing to travel on off days, no weekends, and stay downtown Las Vegas somewhere, you might get the rate they advertise. A search for May 4-7 Las Vegas on Travelocity.com found no rates lower than $39.95, and this was the weekday.

Travel prices are subject to demand. Travel during peak periods costs more. We have a How To Get The Best Las Vegas Room Rates page that explains steps you can take to get the lowest rates. Hope it helps!

Featured Review: Zeffirino Italian At The Venetian

By John Guinivere and Marianna Jones – ChefLive.Com

The staff who tend to the day to day operations of “Zeffirino”, inside the Venetian Hotel, located on the famous Las Vegas strip, invited a few of us to dinner as their guests. Downstairs, where the bar is situated, we began our evening with a cocktail. The bar is very intimate and has almost a cathedral ambiance. It was the perfect setting to relax, people watch and prepare for our wonderful dinner upstairs in the dining room.

Zeffirino is not just another restaurant in Las Vegas. It has a history that extends back to 1939, originating in Italy. The first Zeffirino is still known as the best restaurant in Genoa and was founded by Paolo Belloni. With BellioniÆs vision and Confucio BelloniÆs guidance, Zeffirino opened as a small pub, in a small fishing village in Genoa and through the years has become one of the most famous restaurants of the region.

It is not the food alone that makes a great restaurant. It is the people who cook, serve and greet the customer as well. The evening we went for dinner, we had the opportunity to take the time to sit down and talk with some of the individuals who keep Zeffirino ticking like a well oiled clock. I had one of my best dining experiences ever, listening to the stories and the rich history about the restaurant and the past careers of those who enable Zeffirino and itÆs traditions to continue. Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello from Las Vegas! My apologies for the weather over the weekend. Last week I talked about the 85 (F) and sunny we had for most of October. Wouldn’t you know it — the very next day highs plummeted to the low 70’s and it rained overnight both weekend nights (although pleasant during the day). Today is a chilly 72 so I guess fall will be banging on the door in a few more weeks.

Someone wrote a recent letter to the editor of the Review-Journal (our morning paper) criticizing Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman’s endorsement of Bombay Sapphire gin. The $100,000 endorsement fee is going to charity.á The writer noted that he moved to Las Vegas from the east coast 10 years ago. I’m hoping he leaves soon. If you are thinking about moving to Las Vegas, move to Las Vegas. Accept Las Vegas. If the way we do things here isn’t your cup of tea, please move elsewhere!

Restaurant Review: Alize

Top of the Palms Casino Resort
By Chef John Guinivere – ChefLive.Com

Well folksà I now have a new favorite restaurant here in Las Vegas and I can gladly recommend it. This new restaurant is a chefÆs dream! It sits on the top of a beautiful hotel and has one of the best views in the entire city. The dining room has very high ceilings, which lets in even more for the eyes to see. The interior, from tables, chairs and carpet are all wonderful together. They could serve burgers and beer and you would thoroughly enjoy your visit. But they donÆt server burgers; they serve some of the best food in town!

EDITOR’S NOTES: We’ll be somewhat back to “normal” this week, although the letters section will feature notes I received regarding the tragedy. I want to encourage you to take advantage of the lower hotel rates and the opportunity to go about your business and show that we won’t be put in fear of our way of life.

Hotel rates are down. The lines at vacation destinations are shorter, the traffic isn’t bad. In fact, I’m going to put my money where my mouth is: We are going to give $1 to the Red Cross for every room night you readers book now through Sept. 26, 2001. No catch, you still get to take advantage of our rebate spectacular, and the guaranteed low rates! Full details at http://www.accessvegas.com/las-vegas-discounts.htm

It doesn’t even have to be Las Vegas. It can be any one of the 150+ cities we book. Worried about getting a flight (or don’t want to fly)? Drive to Atlantic City, Biloxi, Charleston, Florida (Space Coast, West Palm, Lauderdale, Miami, The Keys, Ft. Myers, or Panama City Beach), Gatlinburg, Hilton Head, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Williamsburg, or Yellowstone (just to mention a few).

Why are we doing this? We feel terrible for the thousands of lives lost in the World Trade Center tragedy. We also feel for the tens of thousands in the hospitality and travel industry who have been laid off. These are hard working people just like you and I, many with families to feed. If you need to get away for the weekend, week, or were thinking about booking a trip for later this year, this is the time to get great rates and show you support at http://www.accessvegas.com/las-vegas-discounts.htm

FEATURE STORY: Harley-Davidson Cafe

While coincidence, it seem fitting to be talking about a restaurant which commemorates a legendary American product and has a decidedly patriotic theme and red, white, and blue decor.

This is one of the more successful theme eateries in Las Vegas. Country Star Cafe, Dive!, Race Rock and All Star Cafe have bit the dust (although Race Rock might be temporarily closed), and word is still out on the new ESPN Zone but the huge 28 foot high, $500,000 Harley replica above the door as well as the prime lower-Strip location make them hard to miss.

Whether the restaurant lasts 100 years like the famous motorcycles have remain to be seen, but if you are a biker, weekend biker, or just have a “good ole’ boy” love of the US or things related to it, pop your head in the door for a spell.

Memorabilia includes seven Harley-Davidson Motorcycles displayed hanging from a conveyor belt winding its way through every area of the Cafe. On one wall is a 40′ x 40 American Flag, made from 44,000 chain links and weighing over 7 tons. A theme restaurant must have that celebrity connection, and the Cafe has famous bikes on display which include “Captain America” from the movie Easy Rider as well as Harley motorcycles and memorabilia from celebrities such as Elvis, Ann-Margret, and Billy Joel.

This is a themed restaurant which means the emphasis is more on memoribilia and surroundings (read: the food isn’t bargain-priced but has really cutsy names). However, the quality was good and they don’t skimp on the portions. My only complaint was that everything seemed a little on the salty side, but not terribly so.

They have a very complete menu, and house specialties include:

The Harley Hog Sandwich: Carolina pulled pork sandwich with French fries and Coleslaw $10.25

Chicken Pot Pie: Chicken and vegetables topped with a pastry crust $13.50

Homestyle Meatloaf: With broccoli, mashed potatoes and brown gravy $11.25

Kellogg’s CornFlake Coated Chicken Fingers: Chicken tenders served with your choice of Original, Honey-BBQ or Buffalo Style sauce $7.50

BBQ Baby Back Ribs: House-smoked ribs with baked beans and cole slaw $19.95

Vegetarian Wrap Sandwich: Grilled and roasted carrots, zucchini and yellow squash, with a basil pesto, wrapped in a spinach tortilla. Served with seasonal fruit $8.75

Georgia House Salad: Assorted lettuces with bacon, chunks of blue cheese and candied pecans with a vinaigrette dressing $8.95

Warm Chocolate Chip Toll House Cookie Pie: With vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate syrup $5.95

Tank full of Sundae: served with three scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, a whole banana, lotsa fixins’ and your choice of hot chocolate or butterscotch $7.95

The Harley-Davidson Cafe is located between The Aladdin and MGM, across from Holiday Inn Boardwalk on the lower Strip. They open at 11:00 AM daily, closing at 11:00 PM on weeknights and midnight on Sunday. Their number is (702) 740-4555 and they accept all major credit cards.

EDITORS NOTE: I was swamped with letters this past week. Although not able to respond to every letter I always read them all and appreciate them. I’m going to post a representative sample here. They all have to do with my last newsletter and the events of last week. Next week, we’ll get back to the “We liked this, but had a problem with that” letters that I trust many find helpful in planning their Vegas vacation.

I hope most US citizens share your view and show their support for our economy by getting out and traveling again. Even if scared to fly, there are plenty of great destinations a days drive from just about anywhere. We are looking forward to making donations to the Red Cross this week for everyone who takes advantage of our offer at http://www.accessvegas.com/las-vegas-discounts.htm

Last Friday night, a number of hotels turned off all nonessential exterior lighting in remembrance of the victims. Sandy is referring to the photos at http://www.accessvegas.com/never-again.htm which I took that evening from the hills above Las Vegas.

Phyllis is referring to the Mirage Waterfalls video I posted last week at http://tv.accessvegas.com/videos/sights/index.htm The short clip was produced a few weeks ago, but seemed appropriate for the mood.
