Monty Python’s Spamalot

For those who consider themselves a Monty Python fan, there is a special breed of humor found within the absurdity of the British comedy troop. While the classic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” carried its fair share of catchy tunes, it would have never been considered a Broadway-scale musical… until now. “Spamalot” takes the troop”s second film and turns it into a full tour de farce that showcases a spectacle that is “lovingly ripped off from” the Python”s parody of the Arthurian Legend.

So is “Spamalot” simply an adaptation of the film? Monty Python fans know that nothing is ever as it seems when it comes to comedy, and to always expect the unexpected. While “Spamalot” lifts primarily from the original film, it also serves up a buffet of classic Python songs from past “Flying Circus” skits, and includes them into the story in clever and seamless ways. “Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding” at the Calypso Room at the Rio Hotel & Casino is a must-see! It pulls you in immediately. Literally the actors, in character, pull you in the minute you walk through the door. You will be ushered to your table and then greeted by your emcee for the evening, the obnoxious, loud Vinnie Black and his tacky wife Loretta. Vinnie is like a shock to the system, but in a good way, pulling you right into the fun. “Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding” is the story of two crazy Italian families, the Vitale’s and the Nunzio’s, coming together for an evening of mayhem and shenanigans. Don”t think you’ll be just sitting back and watching the show. This is an interactive experience and you will be a part of it.

Before the wedding ceremony even begins, the macho groomsmen with attitude will make you feel like you”re part of the family, but not just any family. Everyone, including the bride and groom-to-be, make their rounds greeting the guests. That would be you and me folks, so get prepared to experience two hours of zany fun. Family “issues” delay the start of the wedding while Sister Albert Maria is appalled by the certain behavior of the sleazy Italian men. Gambling Talk: Video Keno – Part Eight – with Victor H. Royer. Four Card Keno Continued – You must remember that each time you do anything, to the machine this is a “user command”, and it will do what it’s programmed to do with such commands. So, unless you start from the start, the machine won’t “know” you only wanted to make one change. It will take that as a “new event”, and if you don’t start at the beginning, nothing that you had been playing before will so remain.

This becomes even more important when it comes to the making of wagers, because many people habitually change one card or another, and forget to go through the procedure from the start, and then wonder why the machine either doesn’t play, or somehow doesn’t play all the cards or numbers they had previously marked. Hello From Las Vegas! We want to wish Jerry Lewis a speedy and good recovery from his recent heart troubles. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 2000 and was blown away (read my archived review). I was born well after his height of fame and can’t say I’m necessarily a fan of his movies. But as a stage entertainer, Lewis is one of the finest I’ve every seen. He had to cancel his July engagement here in Las Vegas, but he will be hosting the Labor Day Telethon live from the South Coast Hotel Casino.

Imperial Palace Future? – The word surrounding the future implosion of the Imperial Palace changes by the day and by the source. Is (IP owner) Harrah’s going to blow it up and put something new on that spot? Yes. But we have very mixed signals about how soon. The hotel has been undergoing significant changes and renovation, most of which make no sense if the hotel is on its last legs. Having said that, an implosion and construction project is such a major decision that Harrah’s wouldn’t let a few bucks worth of changes at the IP stand in the way or a decision to go ahead and torch it. The George Wallace Show Gets Better

The George Wallace Show in Las Vegas has been in town for a little over two years, and it has gotten better. The show was good two years ago when I saw it, but I think Wallace is even more comfortable with Las Vegas audiences than he was before. In many ways he plays the audience like a skilled fisherman. He evaluates the audience as he goes, and adjusts to the audience. If you go and see shows on back-to-back nights you are likely to see 75% different material than you did the night before.

What will you see when you go see George Wallace at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino? You will see a very funny show. You know that Wallace is going to talk about “I be thinking,” how he has been observing people and situations, and he will offer some common sense, but really funny suggestions and solutions. He will pick on some people in the audience, joking good-naturedly about audience members, often related to various professions. If you are a lawyer, or work at an airport, you might get picked on. And if you are a prison guard who is wearing an orange jump suit, you might get picked on. Click to Read Full Review …

      1 oz Navan Vanilla Liquor
      3 oz. Pina Colada Mix (House made with pineapple juice, coconut mil and cream)

      1 oz Marie Brizard Apry Liqueur

    • Summer Quencher:1 1/2 oz Grey Goose Le Citron
      1 1/2 oz Leroux Peach Schnapps
      3 oz sweet and sour
      Fill up with San Bitter Italian Soda.

      Pour all ingredients over ice. Garnish with lemon twist and sprig of mint.

World Series Of Blackjack Kicks Off Schedule – The “World Series of Blackjack” taped at the Las Vegas Hilton, kicked off its schedule last Monday in primetime (10 p.m. Eastern / 7 p.m. Pacific) on GSN (formerly the Game Show Network). The show will feature a new episode each Monday (then repeat two additional times during the week) for 13 weeks through August 28. The series can be seen on GSN (consult local cable listings) and nationally on Direct TV Channel 309 and Dish Network Channel 116.

Dear Ted,

I have been subscribing to your newsletter since just before my first trip to Las Vegas in April two years ago. Thanks to you upon arrival I knew what sites I wanted to see and which I didn’t, where to find great drink and food deals and even how much it was going to cost me to go to the Stratosphere to ride the coaster! And, it was all right on my pocket PC. I owe a great 5 day trip to you. Not a minute was wasted.

This year as we are gearing up to go on May 5th, thanks to your newsletter, I now know that since the Westward Ho has closed, I can go to Casino Royale to get my cheap Margaritas. I also see I am not the only one saddened by the closing of the Stardust, our hotel of choice. Like you I feel they should keep some of it’s history at the new Echelon Place. I can’t imagine that section of the strip without the famous sign.
