Show Review: Le Reve

Reviewed July 15, 2007
by Nancy Dickinson

la reve wynn las vegas cirque soleil dragonThe Sandman himself, Franco Dragone, former creative influence for Cirque du Soleil, has created a portal into the world of dreams. This unparalleled, stand alone show has been nestled quietly in both the spectacular Wynn Resort and the unbridled subconscious of all. Constantly reinventing itself, Le Reve- A Small Collection of Imperfect Dreams (Tickets), is a show that celebrates to no end the love, hate, joy, and pain that comes with the magical and essential tool all humans share- The Dream.

Two instructions before viewing the show: #1 Get there early. Cirque du Soleil spirit has trickled down into Le Reve fueling the “show before the show.” Clowns in the form of a group of men in white suits and red swim caps make the audience their personal playground for humility. Anything from targeting bald men to stealing dates can happen as long as it involves making light of the human condition in all it’s imperfection. #2 Leave imagination boundaries at the door. It’s time to open up to all the possibilities a dream may propose. Click to Read The Complete Review…

Hi Ted and everyone at ‘Access Vegas’,

This is the first photograph I took when I arrived in Las Vegas, it was taken just outside of the airport. It’s one of my most favourite photos and it always makes me feel good. It reminds me of the heat and excitement of my first trip to Vegas, (I’m coming back again in August).

Thanks for all the great Las Vegas info guys!

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello From Las Vegas! Just as Celine joined the ranks of permanent Las Vegas headliners so she could be home every night to raise her child, Toni Braxton is doing the same with her new “permanent headliner” status at The Flamingo where she replaces Aretha Franklin.

After a fierce bidding war, The Tropicana has finally been sold. Just as I have predicted repeatedly in our free streaming broadcast/podcast (click to listen to all archives), the Trop is going to be around for a while. New owners Columbia Sussex Corp. hint at quite a bit of construction and upgrading, but no plans to implode and start over.

This is great news for budget travelers who have enjoyed the hotel’s great location and lower priced rooms. For those of you that prefer more upscale accommodations, don’t worry: Las Vegas has about 40,000 hot, new high-end rooms coming online in the next 4-5 years.

Current Giveaways!

Book Signing – Our good friend Brian Rouff, author of the best-selling Las Vegas novels “Dice Angel and “Money Shot,” will be signing books at Rejavanate Coffee Lounge, 3300 E. Flamingo Road, on Sunday, June 4, from 2 – 5 PM (Google Maps link). These are two great books. If you have a copy, stop by and get it signed. If you don’t, these are required Las Vegas based fiction reading.

Enjoy This Issue!

Tropicana owner agrees to be sold to Columbia Sussex for $2.75 billion – Kentucky-based Columbia Sussex Corp. became the apparent winner of the two-month long bidding war for control of Aztar Corp. on Friday. Pass This One Around – The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook recently posted their ever popular NFL games of the year. This includes all the Sunday night, Monday night, and other marquee match-ups throughout the entire season. The SuperBook also posted the entire first week’s schedule just a month ago. More than 95 games were posted early. “This gives our guests the opportunity to wager on a particular game even though they might not be in Las Vegas on game day,” says Jay Kornegay, executive director of the Superbook.

These lines will remain open for wagering throughout the entire season with the SuperBook staff updating them every Sunday once the season starts. In this case, maybe the early bird does get the worm.

Gambling Talk: Video Slots – Regis’ Cash Club – with Victor H. Royer. It had to happen as well. “Mr. Showbiz” has his own slot machine. And what a game it is. Not only is this game a progressive, but it combines a multi-line reel slot machine with a video slot machine and video bonus screens – four bonus screens, to be exact! Plus, of course, the progressive jackpot which starts at a respectably “cool” $1 million. The machine itself is very tall and very distinctive and you can’t miss it. Show Review – Le Reve

Reviewed December 2005
Nancy Hruska

la reve wynn las vegas cirque soleil dragonAn escape from consciousness to the more colorful subconscious joined by love, hate, joy, pain, and all the bizarre characters a less than perfect world has to offer… This is Le Reve. Oh Franco, this one really hits home.

Le Reve, created by former Cirque du Soleil creative heavyweight Franco Dragone, is thoughtfully built upon a premise every human can embrace- The Dream. The show’s subtitle, “A Small Collection of Imperfect Dreams,” becomes apparent not only scene to scene, but for the real world as well- a reflection of our own imperfect or impeccable dispositions. Ohioan Wins Wheel of Fortune at Imperial Palace – Thanksgiving vacationer hits quarter Megajackpot for $448,714.95. Five spins of a Wheel of Fortune machine at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino and Jennifer Peculis was in shock: she had just won $448,714.95. The 28-year-old Ohioan and her fiance, Ben, had enjoyed a long Thanksgiving weekend at the Imperial Palace and had already checked out Monday morning. But their flight was not until late afternoon, so Peculis was trying her luck at a Wheel of Fortune Megajackpot quarter machine.

She had already played two others before trying the third with $10. Less than five minutes later, she won the progressive jackpot on the most popular slot machine game of all time. “I saw the first Wheel of Fortune symbol, then up came the second and by the time the third came up it was a blur,” Peculis said. She was so excited, she didn’t even realize at first how much she had won. Peculis said she plans to pay off her house, her car and student loans, “And still have a lot left over,” she added. More Wynn Las Vegas – The news just keeps piling in about the opening of this spectacular new resort!

Wynn-ing Photos? – As you read in that last story (in the links above), we in the media aren’t supposed to be taking photos inside Wynn Las Vegas yet. And while we’d love to do it anyway, we pride ourselves on good working relationships with all the resorts. This allows us to give you the kind of coverage we do here. They know we’ll tell it like it is, but we aren’t going to go out of our way to thumb our nose at them.

But … the media prohibition didn’t say anything about the rest of you with your digital cameras and cell phone cameras and video cameras and everything else! So … if you’ve visited Wynn Las Vegas (or are going to in the next few weeks), send in a pile of photos and we’ll share them with everybody! Email to allvegastv@aol.com and if you have a video, email us and we’ll tell you how to get us a copy.

Legal note: Submission does grant publishing in this newsletter and on AccessVegas.com (so we can share it with everyone), but grants us no further rights or uses.

Hot New Headliners and Concerts Added – Look to your right and check out all the great added events coming to Las Vegas! Why see your favorite concert or a great headliner here in Las Vegas? Let’s compare:

Seeing a concert at home: Get off work, fight traffic home, barely have time to eat, running late, get to the arena and pay huge piles of cash for parking, and get inside after missing the first 15 minutes of the show. Then … fighting traffic out of the lot, getting home all fired up, but too late, no sleep, the alarm goes off the next morning for work and life sucks.

Seeing a concert in Las Vegas: Sleep in and spend the day gambling, golfing, shopping or just catching rays at the pool. Maybe a cat nap then a fantastic meal. A quick walk, monorail, or cab ride to the venue (free parking at casinos if you are driving) and a couple of cocktails and plenty of time to get seated before the show. Then … after the show you and thousands of others are in a great mood and the night has just begun! Hit The Strip or a nightclub, try your luck in the casino or back to the room for romance … with no alarm to set.

So what are you waiting for? Check out all the great listings to your right or click direct to our Las Vegas Entertainment listings.

la-cage-1-fan.jpg (17914 bytes)Fran Cummings, 83, Is No Newcomer To An Evening At La Cage – Floridian’s April 13th visit at Riviera was 479th time she’s taken in her favorite show

You might say Fran Cummings is “An Evening at La Cage’s” No. 1 fan since she’s been attending the show 479 times over the past 20 years and if she gets her way she will make it to see the show for the 500th time.

The Pensacola, Florida native loves Las Vegas describing her area as “swampy with lots of old people.” She said, “I am only 83 and banking on making it to ‘La Cage’ another 21 times to see the show for the 500th time. I was their first groupie when I was only 63. My hairdresser sent me to se ‘La Cage’ in 1985 and said to say hello to Larry Edwards who played Tina Turner.”

She said, “I took my husband John Cummings for our 61st wedding anniversary. He likes the show and says there’s lots of talent compared to some Las Vegas shows. I brought my 75-year-old friend along and she loved ‘La Cage.’ The more you see ‘La Cage’ the more you like it. We became friends with the entire cast over the years.”

Fran said, “Times have changed. When it opened in 1985 there was three shows a night and for $9.95 you could get a steak dinner at Kady’s and two drinks. I was there opening night. The show is so packed they should do two shows a night. The show is better than it’s ever been.”

The current cast is Jimmy Emerson as Tammy Spraynette and Madonna’s Older Sister Brent Allen as Bette Midler and Judy Garland, Sammy Gonzales as Liza Minnelli, Kenneth Blake as Madonna and Dolly Parton, Steven Wayne as Cher and Celine Dion, Chris Woods as Diana Ross and Whitney Houston, Jonathan Kay as Jennifer Lopez, Derrick Berry as Brittney Spears, Ryan Zink as Reba McEntire and Lane Lassiter as Michael Jackson.

Don’t miss “An Evening at La Cage” starring Frank Marino as Joan Rivers at 7:30 p.m. except Tuesday.
