Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:Hello from Las Vegas! We celebrated our one day of winter last week with a few hours of snow, and spring is coming in with some very steady rain as we get the left-overs of the storms passing through California. Very unusual, but needed.

This issue is extra-jammed with stuff you need to know. Las Vegas never rests! Do what many do, and read it over the course of a few days, taking time to catch everything so you’ll be informed.

Regular readers notice: We’ve had a real hit-and-miss publication schedule the past year due to our expansion. For 2005 we are going to publish this main newsletter every 10 days. Enough for the coming visitor and casual Vegas fan. And we’ll soon introduce an optional update of 3-4 times a week for you Vegas nuts. Lots more insider stuff! Details coming soon.

See the Grand Canyon in a Jet Helicopter! For years Maverick Helicopters has been providing a true VIP Helicopter experience of the Grand Canyon. We do things a little different than any other helicopter Company. We give you an adventure of a lifetime and not just another tour of the Grand Canyon. Las Vegas Strip tours plus Helicopter Weddings also available!

New Year’s Eve – Wow! Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow. I’ve seen it all, year after year here, and this New Year’s Eve topped them all. The most spectacular fireworks ever, punctuated by laser lights flashing in all directions from the top of the Paris Las Vegas Eiffel Tower and other hotels.Probably one of the best crowds ever, reasonably well behaved especially considering that drinking on The Strip is not only allowed, but encouraged with beer and drink stands up and down The Strip! The temperature at midnight was a brisk but comfortable 42 degrees and the party was an 11 on a 10 scale. Let New York City have their little ball drop (yawn). Las Vegas provides a party.

We’ll post our photo gallery and full video in a few weeks, but we already have a bunch of great streaming video and related stories. Mary Williams of Arizona sent in a few photos including her husband Mike and friend Gerardo pouring what looks like the world’s largest beer!

If you have photos or video you want included when we put together complete streaming video and photo galleries, please contact Ted at AllVegasTV@aol.com so we can get you included for the world to see!

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Streaming Video and Stories:

Slot Player Hits $50,000 Jackpot On New Year’s Eve -á She was a long way from home ringing in the New Year, but Canadian Patricia Tonks started 2005 off just right with a $50,000 jackpot at the Imperial Palace on Dec. 31. Tonks is a regular visitor at the Imperial Palace and travels from her home in British Columbia to Las Vegas regularly. She was playing a $5 Five Star slot machine when the jackpot hit.

Superbowl Parties – The NFL (No Fun League) has put a cease and desist on the type of Superbowl parties of years past. Hell … they are probably going to sue us for saying Superbowl at this rate. These parties usually had an entry fee that included food and booze, giveaways, Miller Girls (or similar), big screens all over a ballroom … major party. The NFL says you can’t charge admission to watch their game on TV (even though the admission really covered the goodies, and the hotels still took a loss on some of these events) and the game was broadcast all over the casino for free. Whatever.

Las Vegas is still the best place in the world to watch the game, as we are allowed to show it anywhere we usually show games. Every sports book, every bar, every restaurant that has a TV. Outside of New Year’s Eve, the vibe here during the big game (with millions of dollars bet on it legally) is second to none and rooms are going quickly.

Click now to book a Superbowl weekend room now (Feb. 4-6, 2005) or you’ll face sold out rooms. Also, our friends at Hofbrauhaus are throwing a free Hofbrauhaus Free Super Bowl Party that is the biggest blowout we’ve heard of yet. We’ll keep you posted.

PT’s Las Vegas 2005 Girls of PT’s Calendar Giveaway – You know Las Vegas has the hottest bartenders, and they aren’t all just on The Strip! PT’s Pubs and Restaurant/Lounges are all over the Las Vegas Valley, making them the local’s favorite. We’ve teamed with PT’s to help promote their calendar, and a portion of all proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

We also teamed with the PT’s Calendar Girls to pilot our Vegas Hot Shots video series: The Hottest Vegas Bartenders making the Best Vegas Drinks! Here’s all the links:

Yes, ladies … we will feature male bartenders in the series as we ramp it up. And we are going to talk to the new Rio Chippendales Complex about a giveaway for you ladies. Something for just about everyone!

Gambling Talk: You Can Bet On it Gambling Overview – with Victor H. Royer. is the first of a four part free audio series. In this segment, Victor gives some tips and suggestions for the novice gambler, and a basic overview of slots and games available, and how to play informed and maximize the ability to win! This week, click to learn all about Gambling Overview.

Airport Security Video … Vegas Style – We appreciate everything you go through to come visit Las Vegas, especially when you fly and have to endure the security checkpoints. McCarran Airport put together a helpful video to watch while you are in line. Another boring government video? No way … this is Vegas! Some of our top performers volunteered their time and put together a witty, humorous clip that entertains as it informs. Click to watch McCarran Celebrity Security Video (broadband only).

Free Wi-Fi at McCarran – Travel with your laptop or wi-fi enabled PDA? Las Vegas’ McCarran airport now has free wi-fi. Period. Done. The entire airport. No fees. Fortunately, this is the wave of the future. As broadband and wireless becomes the norm, more and more businesses will provide it at no cost as a service to customers.

This also continues to help make Las Vegas the best spot to hold a convention. Check your email and download documents and information while you wait for your luggage. Killing time after clearing security on your way home? You can surf the web or get some work done. Need to figure out where to dine when you get here? Surf our dining section while you wait for your bags!

What Is Everyone Looking At? – Check out our Random Las Vegas Photos feature from our huge Las Vegas photo gallery. Warning: A handful of our 2500+ photos are PG-13 as we do cover Las Vegas as Las Vegas is.

howard-hughes-car.jpg (15976 bytes)Howard Hughes Car On Display -á at Imperial Palace Auto Collection. A 1954 Chrysler New Yorker, which was custom built for Hughes, is available for viewing at the hotel. The car was custom-fitted with an elaborate air purification system in the trunk of the car to ensure there was always clean air in the cab. Priced at $125,000, the car has only 1,600 original miles on it. The original bill of sale to Hughes is still in the window.

Moving To Las Vegas – A recent post to our message boards asked about moving to Las Vegas. Thousands move here each month. What you don’t hear about are the hundreds and hundreds that move back home because they come unprepared. Read my response to the post if you are thinking about relocating here.

Las Vegas Trip Report Giveaway – The winning doesn’t have to stop when you get home! Tell your newsletter friends and readers here about your trip in our forums and be automatically entered to win a $25 casino chip for your next visit (what a great souvenir)! Click to our Las Vegas Trip Report Giveaway page.

October Trip Reports: We had just kicked off this contest and had only three qualifying entries. One random winner will be chosen, but we need you to vote for the October People’s Choice winner. Here’s how it works: Read each report. If you found it helpful, click the Recommend link to the right of the report (on the report page). You can recommend one or more. Monorail: Sanitized For Your Protection – Last week, we told you it the opening was close, and the Las Vegas Monorail opened back up on Christmas Eve. As a present to Las Vegas visitors, the ride was free the first five days, and carried record traffic. Of course, we were down risking life and limb (just kidding) Christmas Eve to take a ride, and everything was great. Related news stories:

Top Notch Cheap and Free Entertainment – Here are our picks for great Las Vegas entertainment without breaking your budget:

  • David Van Such is a nationally known smooth jazz artist who makes Las Vegas his home. You can catch him and his band live at Sinbad Lounge in The Aladdin this coming week (Jan. 4-8) from 4:30 – 9:00 PM, one drink minimum. Take a listen: Dial-Up or Broadband audio and make sure to tell him that AccessVegas.com sent you!
  • Larry G. Jones keeps knocking them dead downtown at The Plaza. He’s a first-rate impressionist. Danny Gans without the $100 price tag. In fact, the show’s $7.95 ticket includes a drink! Watch Larry in action: Dial-Up or Broadband video. Even if you stay on The Strip, you have to get downtown for one night. Our suggestion? See Larry’s show (6:00 PM nightly except Friday) while everyone else is standing in line for restaurants. Then enjoy a meal and catch a couple of the spectacular light shows. Fremont Street Light Show video: Dial-Up or Broadband (also free)!

New Forum Shop Expansion – is beautiful. Stunning. Amazing. Located right on The Strip, this huge three-level wing features curved escalators, statues, marble, classically painted ceilings, and more. We’ve added stunning new photos to our Caesars Forum Shops Photo Gallery. Related news stories:

Las Vegas Trip Report Giveaway – We’ll start listing and voting on trip reports next issue (finally). Sorry for the delays. We should have waited until after New Year’s Eve to crank this up. All prizes will be awarded!

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello from Las Vegas! Just a reminder that we are publishing twice a week through the end of the year. We are getting swamped with New Year’s Eve announcements, 2005 concert listings, and more. In fact, a number of hot concert listings just missed this deadline so stay tuned to our next newsletter!

Merry Christmas From Las Vegas – I have a yearly tradition of posting photos from the famed Bellagio Resort Botanical Gardens and their amazing holiday display here in Las Vegas. I didn’t think I’d make deadline this year, so we posted links to previous years photos in our last issue.

However, I made it over and got some great shots posted at Bellagio Gardens Christmas 2004! This year especially, the photos don’t it justice. Snow fell from the ceiling onto the display and the main tree was surrounded by an amazing choreographed water display. For those wondering, this display is virtually all live plants. The trees, the flowers … everything. Another great reason to visit Las Vegas during the holiday season.

Many of you (record numbers) took advantage of the fact that any photo in our gallery can be sent as a free e-card and it’s still not too late to let someone know you are thinking of them during the season!

New Year’s Eve Updates – More info added to New Year’s Event Calendar: Las Vegas kicks off our one hundred year centennial this New Year’s Eve with a $600,000 fireworks show taking place up and down the entire Las Vegas Strip! Related links and information:

VIP Club Parties For New Year’s Eve

Cirque du Soleil’s KA – Dubbed “The Most Expensive Show In Modern History” by Las Vegas entertainment writer Mike Weatherford, KA by Cirque du Soleil has opened to rave reviews. Related links:

Gambling Talk: Video Slots – Diamond Cinema – Bogart and Bergman – with Victor H. Royer. Rick’s Cafe American, the intrigue, the love, the immortal song “As Time Goes By”. Here’s looking at you, kid. Once again IGT brings back the nostalgia of the silver screen, in this installment in the Diamond Cinema series of video slots. This week, click to learn all about Video Slots – Diamond Cinema – Bogart and Bergman.

“How Can You Live Here” – is a common question I get during our blazing hot summers from visitors. Well … much of the U.S. is experiencing sub-freezing and abnormally cold weather right now. I’m getting cold just watching it on TV! As that bone-crushing painful chill rips through you, think about how you’d trade it for a 105 degree (F) day sipping a cocktail around a resort swimming pool in Las Vegas. Maybe now is a good time to book a Spring trip to see us.

Speaking of living in Las Vegas …

Vegas Going Condo Crazy – As we reported here recently, high rise condo development is front and center here in Las Vegas now. At first, places like Park Towers and Turnberry were developed. Not wanting to miss out, major gaming companies ranging from MGM Mirage to Hard Rock have jumped on this trend.

Why? High rise living targets the upscale crowd. The people that casinos crave to spend money on gambling, fine dining, and high-end shopping. What better way to attract these people than to sell them a condo right on the casino property!

Upscale visitors aren’t the only group target for this new (to Las Vegas) form of living. With a serious water shortage, condo living makes sense because of shared grounds (instead of every person watering a bunch of grass and plants in their yard). Also, some proposed condos downtown and within a 2-3 mile radius of The Strip are aimed at younger professionals and gaming employees with entry level prices as low as about $150,000.

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:Hello from Las Vegas! We had a little unexpected hiatus from publishing. I tried to play “Mr. Fix It” with my computer and wiped out about two weeks of email, which included concerts and New Year’s updates and business email … you name it. With New Year’s Eve bearing down on us, we’ll be publishing twice weekly through the end of the year to keep you up-to-date. Significant events have been added to our Las Vegas New Year’s Eve section. Oh, did I mention it’s been 70 (F)á for the past two weeks?

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

What an incredible Fall season we are having here in Las Vegas! The weather is warm and sunny, the drinks are cold, the golfing is great, and everyone’s having a wonderful time.

With so much happening, we are going to publish a special edition this weekend so you don’t miss a thing. Instead of grabbing the newspaper, settle in with our special update issue on Sunday!

Tropicana Introduces New Havana Honeys Slot Machines – The Tropicana Resort & Casino rolls out its exciting new “Havana Honeys” game – the latest themed slot machines to hit the Tropicana casino floor. The new Havana Honeys game is played similarly to the popular “Blazing 7’s” slot machines with a $.25 cent denomination of play and a three-pay line winning combination.

Havana Honeys machines feature special Cuban cigar-themed pay line symbols such as the Havana Honeys logo, individual Havana Honeys cigars and honey pots filled with cigars. Example of paybacks are three quarters and three Havana Honeys symbols lined up on the pay line will hit a jackpot of $250. The new bank of six Havana Honeys machines is conveniently located on the Casino Level, 5000 wing, directly across from the Tropicana’s aptly themed cigar lounge, Havana Hideaway.

Harvest Festival Theme at Bellagio Botanical GardensBellagioÆs Conservatory has been transformed to evoke memories of autumn – long strolls through brilliant colored leaves and the scent of warm apple cider. The gardens, featuring an old-fashioned rustic mill with a rotating water wheel, giant, prize-winning pumpkins and a haystack of Dogwood branches and bittersweet berries floating through a misty fog, become the idyllic canvas to FallÆs festivities. Stay tuned to this newsletter … we’ll have photos soon!

Imperial Palace, Bud Light to Host True Legend of Rodeo – Hall-of-Fame Bull Rider “Tuff” Hedeman Holds Signing. Anyone who climbs on a 1,600-pound animal and holds on for eight seconds of fury can be called tough, but only one has been given the name Tuff. Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame bull rider Richard “Tuff” Hedeman is a true legend in his sport, and what better place for a Legend to hold an autograph signing than the home of Legends – the Imperial Palace.

Hedeman will appear for an autograph session at the Imperial Palace’s sidewalk-front club Tequila Joe’s on Friday, Oct. 22, starting at 2 p.m. The first 100 guests will receive an autographed Bud Light T-shirt. The hotel will also be holding a drawing inside the hotel for a PBR jacket and belt buckle following the signing.

Ring In 2005 In Las Vegas!
New Year’s Eve Insider Tips

Join us for 2004 / 2005 for the largest, longest street party for New Year’s Eve in the United States.

New York you say? No booze. Sub-freezing weather. People who show up 18 hours early to be crammed against barricades for a 60 second ball drop. That’s not a party, my friends.

Las Vegas? Four miles of the most famous street in the world closed down for pedestrians to celebrate the new year in a neon glow like no other. For one night, you are in the worlds biggest nightclub, no cover charge, and a half-million dollars worth of fireworks going off over your head!

The big party is outside on the actual Las Vegas Strip where they close the road to traffic.

But if an indoor, organized event is more your style, then you’ll enjoy one of the major concerts or resort parties and balls taking place New Year’s Eve!

Special Note: Many of the concerts and hotel parties and balls are not announced until late November or December.
We strongly suggest booking your room now and then making party plans as events and concerts are announced. Stay tuned to this newsletter for event info!

Newkirk’s Notes – comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:

Hello from Las Vegas! Our winter hiatus is over, our hangover from New Year’s eve has subsided, everyone was safe and sound and Las Vegas enjoyed the biggest New Year’s ever!

Co’mon … did anybody think terrorist would be dumb enough to do something at midnight Pacific time when everyone in the known “centers of the universe” (New York, Washington DC, London, Atlanta … take your pick) were asleep? That wouldn’t have been getting much bang for the buck.

Celine Tickets Available! – Celine tickets get released and are snapped up quickly. If you have wanted to see her, click to check and see if your dates are available now. Want a preview? Check out our Celine Dion – A New Day multimedia: Photos | Video: Dial-Up or Broadband

NASCAR Weekend – Las Vegas NASCAR Winston (ok, ok …) Nextel and Busch ticket packages including great seats and first-class hotels, plus our insider transportation tips to get you to the speedway quickly! Click for Las Vegas NASCAR Weekend DetailsSuper Bowl Parties – Many of the hotels throw lavish Super Bowl parties, and if you can’t make it to Houston, you need to be in Las Vegas on Feb. 1, 2004. Check out the growing list of Las Vegas Super Bowl Parties. á

Streaming Video Golf Lessons Part 5: Impact – We’ve teamed up with Revere Anthem Golf Club Director of Instruction Chris Eastman (in conjunction with ChefLive.com) and put together a series of eight streaming video golf tips.

Chris starts with fundamentals like aim and grip, and works through some of the finer points of the game. This week: Lesson 5 – Impact. Click To View All Streaming Lessons

Binion’s Closed, Sold, Set To Open – Binon’s was closed this past weekend due to numerous outstanding debts owed to everyone from the IRS to the union pension and welfare funds. Harrah’s has been interested in the property for quite some time and bought it almost immediately. The lights are back on and word is that the casino will open again as quickly as regulators and other legalities are taken care of.

A union strike of downtown hotels was averted in 2002 but many questioned whether the struggling Binion’s property could meet the new wage and benefit demands. Ultimately it appears they couldn’t.

To the uninitiated, it would seem that operating a casino is a no-brainer but with the growth of Indian Gaming and the Las Vegas Strip really becoming the focal point for those choosing a Las Vegas vacation, downtown casinos have been suffering for years.

New Year’s Eve Availability – We still have a few New Year’s Eve rooms right on The Strip at Casino Royale. Dead center (between Harrah’s and Venetian) for all the action, fireworks and festivities!

The price? Only $149 a night. (Try to find anything near The Strip at twice that). The catch? None except booking Dec. 30 to Jan 1 … two nights. (Standard requirement for weekends or holidays at most hotels).

Here you go .. all wrapped up and ready to open:

Red Hot Special New Year’s Eve Deal!

Casino Royale in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip: Middle of the Action, middle of The Strip, middle of the Fireworks and you are there for only $149 a night (2 night min) on New Year’s Eve. Across from Mirage, next to Venetian, — You can’t afford to stay home!

Don’t write and complain if you miss out. We touted this in last week’s newsletter and availability is now very limited. Unless your brother is some million dollar gambler, you won’t find a deal like this this so close to New Year’s here.

If you can’t make it here, enjoy watching Dick Clark show some 1983 Barry Manilow clip and talk about the wind chill factor in New York on ABC TV. Yawn.

FOX network will ring in the New Year’s here … at 9 PM our time (faking a midnight celebration for those on the east coast, broadcast on tape to the west coast).

The 13 minute fireworks spectacular we’ll have at midnight … stretching all four miles of The Strip … will not be part of that show. We’re doing it at midnight Pacific time live!

Thinking of coming? Check out our New Year’s Eve Las Vegas archives of photos and streaming video to help you decide (or resolve to plan for next year).

If you make it here, say hello. We’ll be out shooting and you just might be one of the stars of this year’s coverage!

New Year’s Eve Las Vegas: Insider Tips

This year will be the biggest Las Vegas New Year’s ever, and that is no hype. Pyro Spectaculars has been hired to do a 13 minute show simultaneously stretching all four miles of The Strip from Excalibur to Stratosphere Tower.

The price tag? $500,000. The cost to you? Absolutely zero! For the first time, the fireworks will include a three minute countdown so you know it’s just about time to scream, yell, kiss, jump up and down … and ring in the new year.

We are your New Year’s Eve experts. Other resources may devote a page or two with generic info. We are on The Strip year after year, enjoying it, gathering first-hand advice, and taking photos and video for you!

Our Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Insider Tips and Info:

  • Index – Main page with links to all information.

  • Concerts and Indoor Events/Parties – Listed at the bottom of our December Entertainment Calendar for those who prefer indoor events.

  • Photos – from the past three years. Fireworks, crowds, crazies, couples and (of course) the girls!

  • Streaming Video – no charge to view streaming video of just about every aspect of our great celebration here in Las Vegas.

  • Hotel Tips – How to get the best rates, where to stay (whether or not you have a car), minimum stay requirements to watch for.

  • General Tips – Where on The Strip to be, where to park, weather, crowds (where they are thick and crazy, where there is elbow room and calm) and more.

  • Party Tips – Drinking (booze) container restrictions, how to avoid any trouble with the law, Mardi Gras beads, and more.

Send An E-Card – Get your friends excited to go (or show them what they will be missing). Every photo in our New Year’s Eve Photo Gallery (as well as all photos in our Las Vegas Photo Gallery) can be sent as an online email card.

Pyro Spectaculars is the same company doing the fireworks at the Olympics in Athens next year, so you know this will be a memory of a lifetime. Don’t miss it.

Las Vegas Calendars Shade Tree Shelter Benefit

We are pleased to announce David BermanÆs ninth annual sale of Las Vegas calendars, with all profits to benefit The Shade Tree, which provides shelter and support services to homeless and battered women and their children in the Las Vegas area. (Click Here to jump to the sample photos)

These are the same calendars sold in Las Vegas hotels and gift shops. Our buyers through the years, more than half of whom are repeat customers, know that they are an inexpensive and well-received holiday gift for friends and co-workers, as well as excellent stocking-stuffers for their loved ones.

Each year of the project has produced record sales and donations. Sales exceeded 2,000 calendars last year for the first time ever, with 349 customers purchasing 2,016 calendars and raising $3,735 for Shade Tree.

At the request of Shade Tree, this will be the third straight year that sale profits will be applied to the purchase of discount bus tokens, which allow clients of non-profit organizations to use the local bus system for only 40 cents per ride. This unfunded item is critical in enabling Shade Tree clients to travel to job interviews, medical appointments, counseling sessions and classes.

Calendar pricing is unchanged from last year:

Orders of one or two calendars: $5.00 per calendar.

Orders of three or more calendars: $4.50 U.S. per calendar.

Prices include shipping and Shade Tree donation.

If you are in the Las Vegas area as a visitor or resident, personal delivery or pickup is available for just $3.00 per calendar.

The above prices are for payments in U.S. funds for orders shipped to U.S. addresses. Foreign buyers should e-mail for price on orders shipped to their countries.

If you operate a business and would like to give these calendars to your clients as gifts, attractive pricing on bulk orders is available.

By popular demand, PayPal is now available as a payment option.

The Shade Tree portion of all purchases is tax-deductible, and each buyer will be advised of the amount of deduction that can be claimed.

For detailed ordering instructions, please e-mail David: davidinlv@cox.net
David uses a permission-based spam filter, so just indicate why you are writing if you are queried, and David will release your message to him.

Here is the link to an August Las Vegas Review-Journal story that describes Shade TreeÆs plans for enhancements to its three-year-old facility just north of downtown Las Vegas.

WeÆre also pleased to tell you that David and his wife Rosalyn were honored for their work on behalf of the shelter with a 2003 Community Partnership Award at Shade TreeÆs annual Stars Luncheon on October 17. Other award winners included FitzgeraldÆs Hotel-Casino, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Perini Building Company, the MGM Mirage Voice Foundation, and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

Almost all of the hotel restaurants from the buffets to the fine dining houses host a Thanksgiving menu, and the town is full of people taking advantage of a four day weekend. Many get their family and friends all together to meet in Las Vegas! Check room rates now.

Coming Concerts and Headliners – Lots and lots of great entertainment on the way. Book now online to lock up the best available tickets or call 800-696-5721 to book all Las Vegas hotels, shows, tours, golf, and dining:

Free Las Vegas Golf Lessons – and you can take them from anywhere in the world! We’ve teamed up with Revere Anthem Golf Club Director of Instruction Chris Eastman (in conjunction with ChefLive.com) and put together a series of eight streaming video golf tips.

Chris starts with fundamentals like aim and grip, and works through some of the finer points of the game. We’ll be posting a new lesson every week and reminding you here in the newsletter.

If you want to improve your game or just get a taste of Las Vegas golf, see the videos and learn more about Chris and The Revere at our Streaming Video Free Golf Lessons page. He is also available and highly recommended for private instruction.

X-Scream – thrill ride has opened on top of the Stratosphere Tower. X-Scream tilts you 30 feet over the edge as it plunges you toward the ground almost 1000 feet below! Hint: Buy the “all day pass” if you go up to ride the Stratosphere rides. For about the price of riding any of the rides thee or four times, you can go again and again and again. And if you are like me, you’ll want to!

Sirens of TI – has replaced the old Pirate Show at Treasure Island. OK, ok … we are supposed to call it TI. The show is supposed to be better than the previous one. The “new” TI is supposed to be young and hip like The Palms or Hard Rock. I think the less-than-tepid applause after a recent “Sirens” show said it all.

The new Sirens are great eye candy for the guys (I enjoyed that part), but trying to do a short form production show using props meant for a previous show to an audience too far away to enjoy the subtleties fell a little flat. But hey … the price is right: Free performances nightly at 6:00, 8:00, and 10:00 p.m.

MGM-Mirage is reportedly considering doing away with the Mirage’s south seas theme. What look are they going to go after? Green Valley Ranch? Hey … their executives are making more than I am so they must know something I don’t.

New Year’s Eve Concerts – The list is getting longer and longer, and we are posting them as we get the news. Check out our December 2003 Entertainment Calendar. What … you don’t know how hot New Year’s Eve is here in Las Vegas? We have the insider tips, and plenty of free photos and streaming video from past years on our Las Vegas New Year’s Eve site!

Veterens Eat Free McCormick & Schmick’s is offering all veterans free lunch or dinner (designated menu itens, served with coffee or tea) this Tuesday Nov. 11 in celebration of Veteren’s Day. Veterens ID or discharge papers required. You can reserve ahead at 702-836-9000. McCormick & Schmick’s is a fine dining restaurant. Watch Executive Chef John Botkin prepare one of their famous dishes and take a peek via streaming video: Dial-Up or Broadband

Top Restaurants – Michael Politz, publisher of Food and Beverage Magazine recently appeared on Extra TV, highlighting some of the great restaurants of Las Vegas. Click to watch.

New Mandalay Bay Tower – is already gracing the sky (under construction). Simply called The Hotel, this 43 story tower will feature softer colors and a south seas theme. (Hmmmm … the same theme Mirage is thinking of dumping). A restaurant and lounge on top will be open to the public and feature a stunning Strip view. The hotel will have it’s own check in area and two restaurants (including a 24/7 coffee shop) essentially creating a stand alone hotel.

Video Spotlight – We are always adding new streaming video to our All Vegas TV site, over 100 Las Vegas videos to date! This week, we feature video of the Ambassador Strip Travelodge. Who? What? A Motel 6???

No … no, no, no! Set against the MGM and Tropicana hotels, this inn is a couple minute walk from The Strip, free airport and convention shuttle, complimentary continental breakfast, and even wireless broadband around the pool. Check out a fun, humorous look this property for yourself: Dial-Up or Broadband
