Hello From Las Vegas! – We’re having a heat wave, with record temps in the 70’s. Fortunately, one local weatherman said that having a warm winter does not necessarily mean a scorching summer. We’ll wait and see on that one. Last summer was the warmest on record. At least we’re getting the payback for it!
Bellagio Fountain View Room, $60, Free Parking, No Resort Fees – I pride myself on really staying up on Las Vegas trends. With rare exception, my predictions on where tourism is headed come true. However, I confess that I had to get up to speed on this one. Visitors are staying on or near The Strip while skipping out on the resort and parking fees:

Dating someone who lives Downtown? If so, you might just get lucky … and, of course, by that we mean that you might get to partake in the DTLV denizen morning ritual of strolling or rolling up to Donut Bar (gotta love that 15-minute loading-only spot!) for what is quite possibly the best deal in town.
A music icon officially met an iconic Las Vegas landmark last night when the Goddess of Pop, Cher, arrived at the world-famous Fountains of Bellagio to debut a new fountains show to her hit song, “Believe.” Cher, joined by MGM Resorts International and AEG Presents executives, viewed the new show for the first time alongside hundreds of fans gathered at the Strip-side attraction.

Thanks again for all your informative newsletters. You and your team do an outstanding job of keeping us Vegas fans in the loop of what’s happening. The newsletter has come a long way since I first started reading it several years ago. Take a “bow”! 🙂
Just a quick question. You had mentioned that the Vegas Hotels tend to open their pools in mid to late March. Normally I’m a spring and fall visitor – but this year I’m going to be venturing to other destinations (gasp!!) for vacations and I will be visiting Vegas in December this year.
Don’t some of the Hotels, such as Mirage & Caesars, still have a portion of their pools open in the winter because they’re heated? I’m from Upstate New York – so taking a dip in the upper 50Fs or low 60Fs would still be refreshing than the 20F degree with -5F wind chills I deal with at home!
Take care!

Those who don’t subscribe are still getting the old version. We’re kicking it up a notch for paid subscribers who are helping support us financially. Their “cup of coffee a month” (less than $2 per month, $23.95 per year) helps us finance all of the great new information we’re helping members with. For example, this week, members are learning how to experience Las Vegas the way they enjoy, while skipping the obnoxious new fees! (That will save you well over $100 on an average stay).
Yes, a handful of properties do keep their pools open year-round. They usually have one pool open (not the entire pool complex), and don’t expect DJ’s and drink service! Two Novembers ago at the Bellagio pool, there were a few hearty Canadians plus one guy swimming laps.

3. Hello From Las Vegas! – The big conventions are out of town, the cold snap is over, we’re going to be nudging at 70F going into this coming week, our Golden Knights are the second best team in the NHL (as I type), and Steve Wynn just announced yet another hotel project. Between that and the Resorts World site now sporting 5 construction cranes, the North Strip is set to boom! (More on that next week).
Las Vegas Taxi Trips Down – Visitors are abandoning using cabs in droves here, instead using Uber and Lyft to get around. Locals are flocking to the ride-sharing services as well. After decades of long-hauling visitors (taking them the long way to run up the fare), and ridiculous charges like $3 for using a credit card (when they finally got around to taking credit cards), the cab companies are getting bitten in the rear.
If you are using Uber or Lyft, you already know how awesome, convenient, and cost-effective they are. (Fares are cheaper than taxis). After you download their free app, you enter where you are at, where you want to go, and it quotes you a price. When you click to request a ride, the app actually shows you where your driver is, and how soon they should arrive. (Usually within minutes).
You actually ride with someone in their own car. However both companies have strict standards about car inspections, and drivers work to make the experience a great one as you rate them when you are done with your trip.

So You Wanna Move To Vegas…
Here’s What Your Real Estate Agent Won’t Tell You
As the real estate market continues to heat up here, many who are pondering the move are wondering if they should get in now. We have the third-fastest rising home values in the nation with no let-up in sight. (We have recovered from the recession, and homes are now above pre-recession prices).
The “new urban” (walkable neighborhoods, lots of parks) of Inspirada may be your cup of tea. If you like nature and bird watching and such, you may want to live near the wetlands park in zip code 89122 (yes, we have a huge, thriving wetlands park, lots of birds and nature). Want a neighborhood with a panoramic view of both The Strip and Downtown? Then Sunrise Mountain (far east end of Steward/Charleston/Bonanza) is for you.

Filled with world-class restaurants, Las Vegas has become a leading destination for gastronauts. Now, its regional roster includes Sa’ Nyu Wa, an eatery that features Native American food traditions. I have not been to The Palms or The Rio in years. I used to really enjoy the Carnival In The Sky show, and the seafood buffet at The Rio. Plus, the Vegas Strip view from Voodoo Lounge was really really good.
I remember reading in your column how Red Rock Station bought The Palms, and were going to do a bunch of updates on it. Are they still worth seeing?
Donene P.
Ted Responds:
As I write this in January of 2018, the two properties could not be headed in more opposite directions. First will get to the good (there still is some) and the bad of The Rio, then we’ll get to The Palms update.
Under the ownership of Caesars Entertainment, The Rio has suffered. It seems to be an open secret that Caesars would like to sell the property if a willing buyer came along. The show in the sky is long gone, the free shuttle to The Strip got shut down, and the seafood buffet has been dovetailed into the Carnival World buffet (for an extra $20, which actually is worth it if you can chow down expensive seafood like I can).
The Voodoo Lounge continues to be a bright spot. As in, still one of the best places in town to see all of the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip in a close-up, panoramic display:
Oh, and since it is an off-Strip property (just barely, sitting less than mile from Bellagio), Rio still offers free parking.
The Palms was purchased by Station Casinos for $312 million, and they are dropping another $485 million into renovations. We understand that no part of the property will remain untouched.
An interesting side note is that they own a whole bunch of the neighborhood sitting to the southwest of Palace Station, and before the great recession, were eying building their own “Palms” type resort on that land. Fast forward 10 years, and they were able to get their hands on the original!
Palms is still very much a work in progress. Consider it to be a construction zone through the end of this year, and perhaps into 2019. The only real reason to visit right now is their new AYCE (All You Can Eat) buffet. It has only been open for a couple of weeks, and is getting raves.
Also, not to be dismissed is the expanded and re-opened Ping Pang Pong Asian restaurant across the street at Gold Coast. Because the Gold Coast caters extensively to the significant Asian population in that area of town (Asians tend to really enjoy gambling), this is the real deal.
Bottom Line? Taking a cheap Uber from The Strip over to dine at AYCE, Ping Pang Pong, or Carnival World then a ride up to Voodoo for drinks with a view (open 8 PM nightly) will be a great evening. However, at this time, I wouldn’t head over that way just to check everything out for an afternoon.

(Producers Notes) When the fabled Sahara casino closed its doors on May 16th 2011, many were skeptical as to whether new life would be breathed into this grande dame of the strip. Fast forward to August 23rd 2014 and SLS, a shiny white concept of ‘LA in the desert’, was born kicking and screaming into the world. Replete with Olympic mascot lookalike Sam, the shiny silver cyclops welcomed the non-existent foot traffic to the property. Would SLS succeed? Hello From Las Vegas! – After a cold, windy weekend, we’ll be bouncing back to seasonal temperatures (around 60F for a high) this coming week. Bummer for the weekend visitors, who are getting subjected to the low 50’s and tons of wind (gusts up to 30 mph). We live in the desert, and weather can bounce all over the place. Also, what is balmy to some of you from cold climates is going to feel chilly to someone from Southern California.
The Hottest Ticket In Town? – No, it isn’t Celine. The red-hot Vegas Golden Knights hockey team are proving to be a huge hit. While their great record isn’t hurting attendance, the big news is the popularity of the games with visitors. MGM’s “The Park” (the area leading from The Strip to T-Mobile arena) is filled with visitors from the opposing team’s city, sporting their gear. On top of that, we’re hearing from people who are simply hockey fans, and going to see games even if their team isn’t involved if the game is happening during their stay!
If you have even given any thought to a road trip to watch your team play ours, here’s some advice: Don’t delay on buying your tickets. AXS.com is the place where official tickets are sold. (Don’t try Ticketmaster). If they are sold out, or you don’t like the price or selection, come by our Tickets.AccessVegas.com and see what we have.
This is a resale market, which means we may have better seats than what are left through the official site, or we may even have cheaper seats based on demand. If a number of season ticket holders aren’t attending, those tickets end up on sites like ours.
The Rest Of The Story – Over in our Premium Advantage members-supported version of this issue (more content, free reports, 150 archived exclusive Las Vegas tips and tricks, ALL of 2017’s issues archived, hundreds of no-coupon-needed updated food and drink specials on The Strip and Fremont Street), we discuss the conspiracy theories surrounding the Oct. 1. shooting, when Las Vegas hotel pool season starts, interesting fun facts about our two towers (Stratosphere and Eiffel), and a fun story about the Las Vegas “Chip” monk from Guardian Angel Cathedral right on the Las Vegas Strip.
Oh, and which Las Vegas casino is running lucky for the players with TWO million-dollar jackpots awarded in the past month! (Hint: It is one you probably haven’t thought of gambling at).
You get instant access to it all at Members.AccessVegas.com plus this is the last call for using the promo code VEGAS2018 to save 25% off of your one-year subscription.

I am wondering what your thoughts are on BAZ at the Palazzo. I was reading some disheartening reviews about sales but apparently there are cheap tickets. If so, where can they be purchased etc.
As always, I appreciate your knowledge and the news letter!
Thank you,
Gary Pisani
Ted Responds:
I have not seen the show. I’ve heard mixed reviews, depending on how much somebody likes a quirky, cocktail culture, full-scale musical show.
If what you have read/seen about it intrigues you and the ticket price is right, give it a go. Generally speaking, no Las Vegas shows completely suck or they wouldn’t last.
We don’t currenty have BAZ discount tickets, so your best bet is to fire up your fave search engine, type in BAZ las vegas discount tickets, and then start clicking around to find the best deal.
The dirty little secret is that — outside of the big name shows– very few shows sell well. As the average age of the Las Vegas visitor gets younger (millenials don’t tend to do shows), and yet as the number of shows remain the same, shows are discounting to fill seats.
Here’s the other rule of thumb: If you want good seats to a show, and/or specifically know what show you want to see, buy before your trip. You can scan the internet for discounts. Unless a show is really, really selling poorly, you aren’t going to get great seats at the discount ticket booths on The Strip. And, their discount often isn’t much (if any) more than you’ll find online.
Hope this helps!

1. How To Con The Casino Computers Into Comping You More – This invaluable report will help turn the seldom-comped player into someone on the casino radar, and turn a regularly comped player into getting better offers! This information alone is worth many times the cost of the membership!
2. How To Recover Left Behind Articles From A Cab Virtually Immediately – If you’ve never left anything behind in a cab while on vacation, lucky you. It can ruin your trip. Even if the items get turned in, it can take hours and hours to get them back. We’ll make sure that doesn’t happen to you.
3. How To Avoid Paying Taxes On Many Gambling Wins – Did you know that the casino MUST report any slot or video poker win over $1199 to the IRS (who will tax you on it whether you report it to them or not)? Depending on your tax bracket, this can/will cost you hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars. Learn what you need to know NOW (before you visit the casino) to avoid getting victimized at tax time!
You’ll receive instant access to all of these reports by visiting Members.AccessVegas.com and signing up today.
Last Call – This is your very last chance to use our promo code VEGAS2018 to save 25%.
