Cheap Places to Eat on the Las Vegas Strip

Finding ways to eat cheap in Las Vegas is an effective way to stretch your budget and conserve cash for more exciting activities, like gambling (we kid, we kid… kinda). One thing we always try to do is find cheap restaurants to eat at for breakfast and lunch and then splurge on something more upscale for dinner. With prices for nearly everything on the Las Vegas Strip on the rise, where can you find a cheap meal anymore? Fortunately, most Las Vegas Strip resorts offer at least one budget option to cater to those looking to save money on meals.

Cirque Du Soleil’s Beloved ‘O’ Returns To The Las Vegas Strip

Ask anyone who’s seen “O” to describe it, and they’ll most likely open their mouth to speak, take a pause, think a bit, and come up with something like, “It’s just so beautiful!” It really is almost impossible to put the experience of “O” into words, and that’s kind of the point. After all, the show does not follow a linear storyline—there’s no hero, no heroine, no climactic scene that wraps everything together. It’s more a series of elegant, highly athletic moments, peppered with bits that seem like they were pulled from another dimension. Oh, and there are clowns, too!

We Went to the New ‘Secret’ Speakeasy Bar in Las Vegas – Here’s How To Find It

Vegas is all about the glitz, glamour and special access. It’s a place where there are VIPs and real VIPs and it’s socially acceptable to flash a player’s club status card to cut everything from the nightclub queue to the regular taxi line. Stretch limos pick up high rollers and whisk them from the airport to private driveways at casinos. Hidden elevators lead to suites that can’t be booked, regardless of how much you want to pay. There are regular pools and then there are the VIP pools. And there are special blackjack tables that simply say “reserved.”

Newkirk’s Notes

Access Vegas Founder Ted NewkirkHello From Las Vegas! – Vegas is in full swing, and I hope and trust that normal is here to stay. My job has plenty of behind-the-scenes drudgery. Comes with the territory. But usually, one of the fun parts is keeping you up on all the great Las Vegas info you need to know. Much of it which you simply won’t find elsewhere, or won’t find our “below the headlines” take which keeps you super-informed.

What To Know About Resorts World – Resorts World opened with a bang. A pretty impressive fireworks show from the rooftops was visible for miles! Dignitaries and celebs and billionaires mingled.

As someone who lived through the casino boom of the 90’s, and through the past decade of no new mega-resort on the Las Vegas Strip, I had almost forgotten what this feeling was like!

The Las Vegas skyline used to change so often, you didn’t notice. When Resorts World turned on their exterior lighting and started testing their video screens, I noticed. Driving home from a grocery run one night, I turned into my neighborhood and literally just about came to a standstill as something was different. The skyline was different. There was the top of Resorts World!

I will highlight some interesting things to know, but we’re not going to get into the nitty-gritty. Not everything is open yet, all new resorts have kinks to work out, and the first few days of a new resort are not representative of it in day-to-day operations.

Does the resort have something that will appeal to most? Yes. Just the amount of different feels from various color schemes gives various areas of the property different vibes. 40 food and beverage outlets will assure you can find something you like. At Strip prices, of course.

Side Note: We’re always looking out for our frugal members. Cross the street and you’ll find (starting from Resorts World Avenue, where you can cross at the light). Mentions do not constitute an endorsement:

This column, breaking down

– Must-know about Resorts World cashless gaming. Even if you prefer to play with cash, there is one situation where using their system will save you money.

– Why you should (or should not) make it a point to visit Resorts World, and what to expect.

– The best North Strip food spots (and we list a variety of cuisines) that have locals pricing if you want to avoid Resorts World “resort” food prices.

– How to get locals pricing on amazing food regardless of what hotel you are staying at (and, without taking an Uber)

– The $5 show, which includes a free cocktail, that you probably don’t know about.

5 New Las Vegas Hotels to Book For an Indulgent Post-Pandemic Vacay

If you’re planning a Las Vegas vacation, the question of “where to stay” will likely come up before you book flights, pool party cabanas, and restaurant reservations. Vegas has taken a sharp turn away from the one-dimensional exteriors of the Excalibur, Luxor, and other themed hotels; now preferring bold, contemporary spaces where guests are less likely to get lost in a casino and encouraged to explore a wider variety of attractions.

My wife and I just returned from a 20 night stay in Las Vegas. Hadn’t stayed on the strip for a few years and after 2 nights at Harrah’s, I can say I won’t stay on the strip again. They charge a $37 per day resort fee for comped rooms.

Tried to check in at noon and was told a room was available but there would be a $15 charge for early check in. I declined that offer. Had a few dollars free slot play with my offer, but had to arm wrestle people to get it. Seems they couldn’t locate the offer in their system even though I showed them my paper copy.

The cocktail service was horrible with the waitress coming by every hour to hour and a half. The video poker machines offered 7/5 and 6/5 odds on double double bonus. Food prices on the strip were astronomical. A whole pizza was price at $49 and a hamburger at $15.

By contrast, I was pleased to see downtown is still a great place to stay. Spent 18 nights there alternating between California, Fremont, and Four Queens. We have been a downtown fan for many many years. Hoping to see Main Street Casino open again as we have always been a fan of their offers. Of all the downtown casinos, we think Four Queens is the best for taking care of their customers.

Idaho tourist hits $1.2M jackpot a night after arriving in Vegas

A tourist from Idaho found the slots at Westgate Las Vegas were no … small potatoes. The woman, identified as Jennifer Hall of Chubbuck, Idaho, hit for $1,253,701 on a Wheel of Fortune slots machine at the hotel at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. She spent less than four minutes at the machine, according to hotel officials. Hall and her husband arrived in Las Vegas on Monday. The couple had planned to visit the Texas panhandle. Instead, they made an abrupt decision to visit Vegas. Jackpot, as we say.

(Producers Notes) There is always something going on in Las Vegas. Show girls and street performers work for tips standing in high traffic areas. Other people try to hand you cards for girls to come to your room. Walking the strip can be quite a fun experience, plenty of places to grab a refreshing beverage and walk from hotel casino and strip easily. You’ll see amazing water fountains people dressed up as different characters as you walk. We took the time to drive out to the Hoover Dam on the border of Arizona and Nevada. what an amazing place. We also Zip lined the Linq. Lots of different entertainment options including the cirque du soleil, Burlesque, and country music shows.

Happy Birthday Las Vegas (opening and excerpt)

(Producers Notes) The following cut is from a 1977 ABC TV special called ‘Happy Las Vegas’. This 2-hour special celebrates the city’s anniversary and, speaking as a Old Vegas fanboy, it is a blast! As you can tell by the list of guests, it is a dozy. Almost each star performs at the front of resorts like the Sahara, MGM Grand, etc. There are some local historical figures like Benny Binion (seen at the end of this clip) featured briefly. All I got to say again that this show is a hoot and you can get your own copy at Modcinema. This not a commercial, but a recommendation! Be prepared to get punch in the face with 70’s Vegas….oh, this also contains original commercials, too. Can you dig it? Can you handle it!?!?!

Celine Dion Returns To Las Vegas’ Newest Resort Along With Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan And Katy Perry

Las Vegas has become such a hotbed of live music travel and destination concerts that it is hard to believe the phenomenon is fairly recent. Celine Dion was almost single-handedly responsible for the transformation and elevation of Sin City’s entertainment scene beyond reprises of Broadway plays, acrobatic, comedy, magic and stage production shows. Dion pioneered the idea of the musical superstar “residency,” essentially moving to Las Vegas and performing so regularly for so many years that Caesars Palace, an iconic Strip hotel, built her a 4,300-seat arena, the Colosseum.

No Matter Your Favorite Cuisine, Las Vegas Does It Very Well

Everyone knows Las Vegas offers practically every type of cuisine imaginable, but there are some styles that the city really does well. And some of the destination’s strengths are a little more under-the-radar. Japanese food is a terrific example. Over the last decade, Las Vegas has arguably become one of the best places in the world beyond Japan to experience the different dishes and time-honored techniques that make up this refined genre of food and dining, and this exciting evolution has produced just as many entries in local neighborhoods as it has on the Las Vegas Strip.

Newkirk’s Notes

Access Vegas Founder Ted NewkirkHello From Las Vegas! – The Strat, Cosmo, and Wynn/Encore casinos are open at 100% capacity. With more soon to follow quickly. While I’ll certainly keep our Members abreast of anything they need to know about visiting Las Vegas and current COVID conditions or restrictions, it is looking like we’ll soon be saying “stick a fork in it… it is over”.

This is not to make light of the deaths and what the world has gone through the past 14 months. However, my J-O-B is to help you experience Las Vegas in a better way, and be more knowledgeable, than all of the other visitors out there. And, I’m thrilled to be getting back to that task!

This column, breaking down:

– What the sale of The Palms means to the visitor, gambler, and the future of Las Vegas. And, what to watch out for!

– Getting a true handle on when Main Street Station will open.

– Trains, trams, and transit: What you need to know has changed in order for you to get around Las Vegas easier, making the most of your valuable vacation time.

– Now that the crowds have returned, what are the “best kept secrets” for super-fun stuff to do and check out (food, drink, sights, more) which are NOT necessarily over-run!

…and more, continues for our Members HERE.

Newkirk’s Notes go well beyond the basic news, rumors, and (often questionable) thoughts and proclamations floating around on the internet. Our Supporting (Paid) Members know not only what is happening, but why, and how they can benefit (or know what to avoid).

For example countless Members have had incredibly enjoyable and successful visits to Las Vegas during COVID simply because they were truly in the know, and not only knew what was happening, but what was on the horizon.

Saving them money, time and inconvenience.

The Pinball Hall of Fame Makes A Bold Move To The Las Vegas Strip

“Is there really pinball in there?” A woman, still in her car, asks me that question as I walk through the parking lot of the new Pinball Hall of Fame location, on Las Vegas Boulevard near Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas Reopens with New Casino Resorts, Restaurants, Bars

Las Vegas, the city that famously trades on luck, was dramatically out of it last year. The coronavirus pandemic dealt Las Vegas a losing hand, taking nearly all the sin (and most of its spending) out of the city. In 2020, the city recorded about 19 million visitors, a steep decline from the 42 million visitors in 2019. Unemployment, just 3.9 percent at the start of 2020, increased to 34 percent — the highest jobless rate in the country — after Nevada’s governor ordered casinos closed last year to help contain the pandemic’s spread. Vegas and its famous casinos, entertainment and dining venues lost billions.

Newkirk’s Notes

Access Vegas Founder Ted NewkirkHello From Las Vegas! That shift we’re feeling isn’t from a California (or Nevada) earthquake. Between updates on when restrictions will change, “must know” info about the shows now playing, and updates on getting a ride-share, we really need to get you up-to-speed!

What’s Really Happening With Restrictions? – The past few weeks have been a wild ride. First, Governor Sisolak said that control of COVID restriction decisions would revert to the counties on May 1. Then, after perhaps three weeks, he noted that counties would have to submit plans to the state for approval. IE, it wouldn’t really be completely up to the counties. Then, he noted that Gaming Control would have the final say over casinos.

Gaming turned around and told the properties (casinos) that unless they made significant progress in vaccinating  their workers, they would not be allowed full occupancy. That came with two interesting issues:

This column, breaking down not only current restrictions, but what is pending, what it means to future visitors in an accurate, expert break-down, continues for our Members HERE.

MGM Sued Over Resort Fees – Are things finally getting serious? What changes would this mean for you as a visitor? Our Members knew how to (often successfully) contest resort fees in various ways the past 18 months.

Shows Are Back – The extra change made to various show capacities have most shows either back or slated to be back. This also affects sports. We do into all the “need to know”

Major Limo Fire – This Las Vegas happening made national news. However, where were they headed, and why? And, why should anyone thinking about getting married or doing a vow renewal strongly consider this “best kept but in plain sight” wedding venue?

The Mayor Is Livid – With COVID restrictions soon to be turned over from the Governor to the County, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman wasted no time saying “I told you so” to the detractors who lambasted her for having a different idea than the Governor when it came to restrictions just one year ago.

What did she say? We have the direct (unedited, no commentary) footage, and it will help you understand what to expect as Las Vegas continues to reopen.

The Drew Back To Fontainebleau – The big blue monster sitting 2/3 finished on The North Strip has changed hands. Again. What does the future hold, what will affect hotel prices and availability over the next year or two, and what factors would make your next few trips pretty cheap. Or, pretty expensive. Our Members KNOW what to keep an eye on.

Buy Your Airline Tickets Now? – We analyze future trends in airfare and have some advice that may save our Members significantly.

Mark Hall-Patton – If this name rings a bell, you know him as the bearded man in the Amish hats who shows up on Pawn Stars from time-to-time. We link to a great article on him, and tell Members what you should know about his “day job”, and why worth knowing is well worth your time (and, one of the best values in town!)
